about
Electrobones is the world’s first wooden sensor that uniquely combines a drum trigger with an acoustic instrument pickup. Made specifically for acoustic instrumentalists & hand and finger drummers, it offers exceptional sensitivity to subtle touch and dynamics. Its natural wood construction not only provides warmth and resonance but also mounts easily on acoustic instruments, seamlessly integrating into any MIDI setup. Whether performing live or recording in the studio, Electrobones empowers musicians to blend organic feel with electronic versatility.

Vision
Electrobones was created out of the need for a more refined, expressive alternative to conventional drum triggers. Most existing options feel artificial—made from synthetic materials that lack the sensitivity required for hand and finger drumming. Crafted from natural wood and inspired by traditional Japanese joinery techniques, Electrobones features a seamless, non-adhesive design that enhances both feel and resonance. More than just a drum trigger, it also functions as a high-quality acoustic pickup—perfect for any acoustic instrument—delivering warmth, versatility, and authentic sound in any setting.
Inspiration
The foundation of Electrobones is deeply rooted in the founder’s lifelong journey as a hand/finger percussionist. Inspired especially by the rich rhythms of Indian tabla and the vibrant energy of Rajasthani khartal, the vision was to bring these traditional instruments into the modern world through electrification. This desire to blend ancient musical heritage with contemporary innovation led to the creation of Electrobones — an instrument designed to capture subtlety, warmth, and expressiveness, while opening new possibilities for artists across all styles.
Craft
Rooted in the elegance of traditional Japanese joinery—specifically “Kigumi”, where wooden pieces interlock seamlessly without adhesives — the design reflects both structural integrity and refined simplicity. The natural wood shell encases the sensor with precision, enhancing resonance and responsiveness. After extensive experimentation with various woods, mahogany stood out for its warmth, clarity, and dynamic feel—making it the material of choice. Each piece is CNC-milled for accuracy, then meticulously hand-sanded, oiled, wired, finished, and rigorously tested at our studio, Surya Sound Temple. The result is a handcrafted instrument that balances modern precision with the soul of traditional craftsmanship.
MIDI
After extensive testing and experimentation with various MIDI interfaces, we found eDRUMin to be the most reliable and expressive solution for Electrobones. Its ultra-low latency, customizable velocity curves, and intuitive mapping system make it a perfect match for translating finger-tapped rhythms into dynamic digital performances. Whether used in DAWs like Ableton Live, Logic, or Pro Tools, eDRUMin brings out the full potential of Electrobones as both an acoustic and electronic instrument — bridging the gap between traditional percussion and modern music production.
